Program description

Keeping in line with the Central Board of Secondary Education in New Delhi, the secondary school program at Guru Nanak Mission Public School emphasises inclusive, holistic learning in a modern, 21st Century context.
Courses prepare students to pass nationally-recognized board exams. Upon successful passing, students who complete grade 10 may attend senior secondary school. They may also apply to a vocational or technical school.
Classrooms are equipped with modern teaching tools, and sufficient resources for all students to access lessons in various subjects. Information and communication technology (ICT) tools and methods are integrated into the core curriculum.
Rather than assessing based on rote memorization, competency-based learning is utilised. Students are given the opportunity to explore, experiment, analyse, solve, critique, create and apply lessons to real-world circumstances. Occasionally, field visits within the school grounds are taken to apply lessons in a natural environment.
Students are taught academic subjects, as well as social skills and values.
Culturally, the program promotes the values-based development of children, especially to coincide with the Constitution of India. Students participate in a 15-20 minute, daily assembly. Assembly time is spent on prayers, inspirational speeches, holiday celebrations, physical exercise and announcements.
Academics
Students develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English, Punjabi and Hindi.
They are given lessons in mathematics, sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) and social sciences (geography, history, economics and political science). Students can choose electives based on their interests.
Health and physical fitness are integrated into the school’s schedule.
