Bio

Mrs. Vanita Chot has been the Principal at Guru Nanak Mission Public School in Dhahan Kaleran, in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, since April, 2014.

In her daily role, she leads and directs the school’s operations. She collaborates on curriculum development and application, implements educational and health policy, manages finances, evaluates staff performance, oversees the safety and welfare of students and liaisons between parents and the surrounding community.

However, her favourite part of working in the field of education is being able to direct the social, emotional and cultural aspects of students’ lives for the better. She believes schools can be places to grow responsible, dedicated and authentic members of society, both as local and global citizens. For this reason, she aims to educate children on current societal and environmental problems, in addition to academic subjects. She hopes this world-awareness will propel them to live meaningful lives as problem-solvers in the future.

Mrs. Chot is always at the daily assembly, and delivers talks on special occasions. On any given afternoon, she can be found in classrooms or meetings with teachers, to ensure learning processes continue to be effective. She is usually the last to leave the school, after checking that all students have safe arrangements to get home.

Her mottos are, “our endeavour is not simply to succeed but to surpass” and “let’s do it with a smile and an air of positivity.”

She appreciates working with Guru Nanak Mission Public School for its charitable purpose. Being able to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children, especially young girls, is an inspiration to her.

Prior to joining Guru Nanak Mission Public School, she was Vice Principal at Sadhu Singh DAV Rural Public School (formerly known as DAV Rural Public School), in Mukandpur, Punjab, from June 2010 to March 2014. Her promotion to Vice Principal came after being a science teacher at the same school from December, 1994 to May, 2010.

Prior to joining Sadhu Singh DAV Rural Public School, she was a science teacher at New St. Soldier Public School in Jalandhar from May, 1991 to July, 1994.

She received her Bachelor of Science (Medical) at Dev Samaj College for Women in Ferozepur (a.k.a. Firozpur), Punjab, in April, 1989. She received her Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees at the same college in April, 1990 and April, 1991, respectively. She went on to achieve her Master’s in Sociology from Annamalai University, in Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu, in May, 1995.

Mrs. Chot’s personal honours have included:

  • The Prestigious Principal’s Award by the Federation of Private Schools and Associations in Punjab, in 2023
